Web Desk: U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States will launch a new maritime initiative, dubbed “Project Freedom,” to help vessels from neutral countries transit safely through the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement posted on Truth Social.

In his message, Trump said several neutral nations had requested assistance for ships currently unable to pass through the strategic waterway. Consequently, he said the United States would begin a “special humanitarian operation” aimed at ensuring safe passage for those vessels so they can continue commercial activities.

Moreover, Trump said the operation would start Monday morning, Middle East time. He added that U.S. authorities would make “every effort” to guide ships and crews safely through the strait, while continuing support until normal navigation resumes.

The U.S. president also emphasized that the initiative would focus on vessels belonging to countries not involved in any regional conflict. He noted that many ships stranded in the area belong to “innocent and neutral nations,” some of which maintain positive relations with both Iran and the United States.

Meanwhile, Trump said his representatives were engaged in “very positive” discussions with Iran, suggesting that ongoing dialogue could yield broader regional benefits.

According to remarks cited by Al Jazeera, Trump also warned that interference with the operation would be met with a strong response. He added that some stranded vessels are facing shortages of essential supplies, including food, underscoring the urgency of the mission.

The announcement comes amid heightened attention on maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route for energy supplies and trade.
