A major change has taken place in the leadership of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), with Adrian Hamilton-Manns named as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the national carrier.

According to sources, Adrian Hamilton-Manns previously served as the CEO of Oman-based airline SalamAir and has extensive experience in commercial aviation and airline management.

Sources said the PIA chairman had also introduced the newly nominated CEO to all the department heads of the organisation. Following this development, reports have emerged of a change in the airline’s administrative leadership. However, the necessary approvals and formalities under the relevant rules and regulations are still pending before his appointment can be finalised.

According to sources, Adrian Hamilton-Manns has nearly three decades of experience in the international aviation industry and has held senior management positions at airlines in several countries. In addition to SalamAir, he has also served as CEO of Kazakhstan’s low-cost airline FlyArystan. His professional experience includes airline operations, commercial management and corporate administration.

His nomination comes at a time when PIA is focusing on changes to its administrative structure and measures to improve business operations following its privatisation.

In June this year, administrative control of PIA was transferred to an investor consortium led by Arif Habib Corporation. Since then, the national carrier’s restructuring and administrative reforms have assumed greater importance.

According to sources, the appointment of the new CEO is expected to bring the benefit of international aviation experience to PIA’s leadership. The new chief will face major challenges in improving the airline’s financial position, operational performance, flight operations, commercial strategy and passenger services.

Sources further said the leadership change is considered significant in the context of the administrative reforms underway following the airline’s privatisation. Further details regarding Adrian Hamilton-Manns’ formal appointment and assumption of responsibilities are expected after the completion of the necessary approvals and formalities.
