Fazlur Rehman Faces Questions Over Land Deals and Family Wealth

The example Fazlur Rehman has set by turning political influence into personal wealth is one rarely seen in history. Known for securing benefits from both opposition and ruling parties, he is now facing mounting allegations that he used his political influence to build an empire worth billions of rupees for his family and close associates.

Land Allotments and Government Land in Dera Ismail Khan

According to official documents and local reports, Fazlur Rehman’s family has played a significant role in the allotment of government land and various development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in Dera Ismail Khan.

It is alleged that land purchased at low prices was subsequently sold at significantly higher rates for government projects through the use of political influence, generating profits worth millions of rupees. Agricultural land was also allegedly transferred under benami ownership to employees and front men.

Front Men and Investments in Dubai

According to reports attributed to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), unusual movements involving millions and billions of rupees were observed in the accounts of Fazlur Rehman’s close associates and alleged front men. These funds are suspected to have subsequently been used to purchase and sell real estate in Dubai and other foreign jurisdictions.

Politics of Privileges

Securing federal ministries for himself, his brothers or his son in successive governments, along with bulletproof vehicles, official residences and numerous VIP privileges, has allegedly been a defining feature of his politics.

Members of the public have questioned how a religious leader who has never owned a business or industrial enterprise could have acquired mansions worth billions of rupees, protocol privileges and convoys of vehicles.
