Major setback for Sri Lanka ahead of Pakistan-England ODI tri-series

Web Desk: Sri Lanka have left Pathum Nissanka out of their squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series featuring Pakistan and England, with the tournament set to take place in Rawalpindi and Lahore from October 18 to 31.

The updated squad includes 16 players, with Kusal Mendis named captain for the competition. The selectors have also omitted Charith Asalanka following a disappointing run of scores in his recent ODI appearances.

Asalanka, who has averaged 40.55 in 88 One-Day Internationals, managed scores of 1, 11 and 7 in his last three innings. Consequently, the selectors decided to leave him out of the revised squad.

Meanwhile, the updated squad features a mix of experienced campaigners and emerging players as Sri Lanka prepare to compete against Pakistan and England in the three-team tournament.

Hosts Pakistan will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 18 before facing England at the same venue on October 20.

Sri Lanka will then take on England in Rawalpindi on October 22, after which the tournament will move to Lahore for the remaining group-stage matches.

Pakistan will meet England at Gaddafi Stadium on October 25 before playing Sri Lanka at the same venue on October 27. Sri Lanka and England will conclude the group stage on October 29.

The top two teams will advance to the final, scheduled for October 31 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Pakistan will head into the tri-series after securing a 2-1 victory over Sri Lanka in a three-match T20 International series.
