Veteran Pakistani showbiz actor Faysal Quraishi has explained what he believes was the main reason behind the ban on Pakistani dramas in India.
In a recent interview, the actor spoke about the entertainment industry and the popularity of Pakistani dramas abroad.
Responding to a question about the ban on Pakistani dramas in India, Faysal Quraishi said they were banned because their narrative was undermining the image being portrayed of Pakistan.
“People are watching our dramas and seeing that Pakistanis are highly educated, modern and tolerant. Our dramas changed their perception,” he said.
Faysal Quraishi added that Pakistani dramas were damaging the Indian government’s narrative against Pakistan, which was why the government decided to ban them. He said the government had not previously found an opportunity to impose the ban but acted as soon as it got one.
He further claimed that when the Indian government banned Pakistani dramas, India recorded the highest number of VPN downloads in the world.
He added that even Indians were now saying that films were being used to promote agendas and spread hatred.
Pakistani drama is one of South Asia’s most influential television industries, with hits from ARY Digital, Hum TV and Geo TV crossing borders into India, the Gulf, and the wider diaspora.
