Cases have been registered against young people arrested during a protest in Bara Bazaar, Khyber district, raising questions about the future of Pashtun youth and their role in political activities. A message that emerged in connection with the incident urges young people to consider their future and the consequences of their decisions before becoming involved in protest politics.
Questions About the Future of Young People
Following the registration of cases against youths arrested during the Bara Bazaar protest, a video message featuring the arrested youths has encouraged young people to assess the situation and consider whether they are being used for political purposes.
In the message, the arrested youths said Pashtun young people should think about their future beyond emotional slogans and political affiliations. They described arrests and legal difficulties arising from political differences and party interests as potentially harmful to the future of young people.
Serious Allegations Against Sohail Afridi
The message alleges that Sohail Afridi, his brother and three other individuals arranged to transfer Rs4 billion out of Pakistan in just one year.
“While they enjoy the benefits, we are left to face the beatings,” the message says.
It questions why young people should bear the burden of arrests and risk their lives in protest politics if political leaders are pursuing their own interests.
Appeal to Pashtun Youth
The message urges Pashtun youth not to be swayed by politicians’ statements and slogans into taking actions whose consequences they and their families may have to bear.
The video message says it is important to understand the difference between the interests of political leadership and the sacrifices made by ordinary young people. It urges young people to prioritise education, employment and the better future of their families, and to consider the potential consequences before participating in any political activity.
