Web Desk: Twenty Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers from Bara in Khyber district have been sent to jail on judicial remand after appearing before a court in connection with unrest in the area.
The court ordered that the workers be transferred to judicial custody rather than remain in police custody as the legal proceedings move forward.
According to available information, the court’s decision places the 20 workers in judicial custody while further legal proceedings are pursued.
The development comes after authorities accused the workers of involvement in disturbances in Bara. Following the court order, the workers were transferred to jail under judicial remand.
Meanwhile, their supporters have indicated that legal efforts will now focus on securing their release through the courts.
The workers’ legal team is preparing to file bail applications, according to a statement issued in connection with the case.
Once the applications are submitted, the court will consider the arguments and legal grounds presented on behalf of the detained workers before deciding whether to grant bail.
However, their immediate release cannot be confirmed until the court hears and decides the bail petitions.
Judicial remand means an accused person remains in custody under a court’s authority rather than in police custody for further investigation. It does not, by itself, determine whether the accused are guilty or innocent.
The next stage of the case is therefore expected to center on the bail proceedings and other legal remedies available to the workers.
The case comes as authorities in Bara continue to deal with the fallout from recent unrest, while attention has shifted toward restoring normal activity and pursuing legal proceedings against those accused of involvement in the disturbances.
