Web Desk: Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has begun using a new mobile registration system designed to take identity services closer to citizens and reduce the need to visit conventional registration centres.
The system uses locally manufactured tablet devices equipped with modern biometric technology and NADRA’s PakID software, allowing designated officials to conduct registration-related activities in different locations.
The initiative is aimed at making identity services more accessible by shifting service delivery from fixed centres toward a more flexible, demand-driven models
Under the new system, a NADRA official can carry the tablet to areas where demand for registration services is particularly high.
For example, if a union council experiences an unusually large influx of citizens seeking identity-related services, authorities can deploy an official equipped with the device to the area.
This approach could help reduce long queues at registration centres while also limiting the need for residents to travel long distances to access NADRA services.
The tablet is equipped to capture key biometric information, including fingerprints, photographs and iris scans.
NADRA officials say the technology is intended to make the collection of biometric data and registration procedures more convenient for citizens while allowing officials to provide services outside traditional office settings.
