Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, speaking at length to the media, said joint efforts were essential to providing quality healthcare to the public and maintaining law and order.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi described the speech delivered by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Multan as extremely disappointing.
He said Fazlur Rehman used to claim that he could not move around freely in his own area and that the federal government was failing to control the law and order situation.
Fazlur Rehman also used to claim that no government could be formed without him and that any government formed without his support could not survive. However, Kundi said, a government had now been formed without him and, God willing, it would also run successfully.
Criticising him, Kundi said that people sitting in palaces preached jihad to the poor, while considering only those who came to them as legitimate.
Despite his criticism, the governor described Fazlur Rehman as a good politician and formally invited him to work together for peace and development in the province.
Strongly criticising the previous provincial government, Faisal Karim Kundi said the chapter of those who had destroyed the province had now been closed forever.
He said the PTI provincial government’s performance against terrorism had been zero, adding that it appeared its decisions and instructions came from Kabul or Afghanistan. He alleged that these people opposed mineral extraction to prevent the province from developing.
In a significant and startling claim, Kundi said Murad Saeed was still in Afghanistan. He described Saeed as Imran Khan’s “parrot,” saying that Imran Khan’s fate depended on him, and asked what would happen to PTI if Saeed were arrested.
Law and Order, Security Package and Federal Cooperation
The KP governor made it clear that law and order was the top priority and that no compromise would be made on the issue. He added that the Balochistan government was also fighting terrorism alongside the federal government.
He said all differences between the federal government and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had now been resolved and that both were working together as one unit.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi recently visited KP and provided 10 vehicles to the provincial police. He also asked the inspector general of police to submit details of further requirements.
Kundi said police officers and doctors had not received salary increases for the past 10 years. However, a security package had now been announced for the police, while a new salary package would also be introduced soon. In addition, 10 to 12 districts of the province would be developed into “model security districts.”
Improving Healthcare and Strengthening Institutions
Speaking about healthcare, Faisal Karim Kundi stressed the need for practical measures rather than mere announcements. Emergency steps would be taken to ensure the deployment of specialist doctors at hospitals across the province, particularly in remote areas.
He said strengthening institutions would automatically strengthen the province, adding that all institutions were undergoing a process of recalibration.
Growing cooperation between federal and provincial representatives on administrative matters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa indicates that a firm and coordinated strategy is now being pursued to address security challenges.
In a province that has long faced security threats and political confrontation, upgrading the police and establishing model security districts could play a key role in restoring peace.
However, alongside strong criticism of political rivals, the offer to opposition leaders to work together reflects an administrative approach that seeks both to eliminate the causes of unrest and to unite different political forces around the province’s development agenda.
