Web Desk: The nomination process for local representatives and members of development councils across all 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has entered its final stages, the Area Development Secretariat said.

The secretariat said the process aims to ensure that council members reflect local preferences, community traditions and public expectations.

During the first phase, the authorities organised jirgas, or traditional community assemblies, in all 12 districts to nominate respected individuals for membership of the development councils.

According to the secretariat, local residents selected their preferred candidates through these gatherings, which took place with the assistance of deputy commissioners.

The authorities used the traditional consultation process to give communities a voice in choosing their representatives, while ensuring that nominations followed established local customs.

Following the jirgas, the Additional Chief Secretary and Administrator of the Area Development Secretariat processed the proposed names.

After consultations, the additional chief secretary forwarded the nominations to the chief secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for further consideration.

The chief secretary subsequently sent the list to the provincial governor, who forwarded the nominated members’ names to the federal government.

The secretariat said the federal government is expected to issue the formal notification confirming the new council members soon.

It added that the entire exercise was conducted transparently, with due consideration for public aspirations and local traditions.

The forthcoming notification will formally establish the new membership of the development councils, completing the nomination process that began with consultations at the district level.
