The Ministry of Information has urged the Afghan Taliban to respond to concrete evidence of terrorism and take verifiable steps to eliminate the threat instead of denying its existence. The Afghan Taliban must fulfil their counterterrorism commitments.

In a statement, the Ministry of Information said Afghan Taliban spokespersons were resorting to rhetoric and attempts to divert attention instead of providing answers. It said terrorist attacks originating from Afghanistan reflected the failure of the Taliban government.

The ministry said the threat posed by terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan could not be concealed. A United Nations Security Council report mentions the presence of 6,000 members of a banned organisation in Afghanistan. The report also refers to the Afghan Taliban’s support for the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

According to Jang, the statement said the Afghan Taliban government must take verifiable action against terrorist safe havens and networks. It said the Afghan Taliban were responsible for preventing Afghan territory from being used to launch attacks against Pakistan.

The Ministry of Information also said the Afghan Taliban government continued to impose restrictions on girls’ education, while violations of fundamental human rights contradicted the government’s claims.

The ministry emphasised that Pakistan remained committed to dialogue. However, meaningful progress would require the Afghan Taliban to fulfil their counterterrorism commitments. Pakistan, it added, would take all necessary measures to protect and defend its citizens.
