Shahbaz senior honored at Hockey World Cup final

Pakistan hockey legend, Olympian, and former captain Shahbaz Ahmed Senior was honoured as an FIH Legend during the final of the 2026 Hockey World Cup in Belgium.

He was invited by the organizers of the Hockey World Cup 2026 to attend the final and present the award in his capacity as an FIH Legend. He presented the Man of the Tournament award to Thomas Domen at the Hockey World Cup final held in Belgium

Under Shahbaz Senior’s captaincy, Pakistan won the 1994 Hockey World Cup.

It may be recalled that the final of the 2026 Hockey World Cup, between Spain and Germany, was played yesterday at the Belfius Hockey Arena in the Belgian city of Wavre.

Germany defeated Spain by one goal. With this victory, Germany became the second country after Pakistan in hockey history to win the World Cup title four times.

Shahbaz Senior described the invitation as a great honor for himself and Pakistan, saying that it was recognition of Pakistan’s outstanding legacy in world hockey.

Meanwhile, Pakistan qualified for this Hockey World Cup after a long absence and finished 11th in terms of performance.

The chief guest at the final was King Philippe of Belgium.
