Lahore: Punjab government and representatives of the transporters reached a breakthrough on Monday after two days of negotiations aimed at ending a province-wide strike, according to provincial officials.

Talks Break Deadlock

Punjab Transport Minister said discussions with transporters had been underway for 48 hours after the strike disrupted services across major routes. He noted that no consultations had taken place prior to the introduction of the proposed Traffic Ordinance 2025, which became a major sticking point for transport unions.

Government Withdraws Traffic Ordinance

In a bid to ease tensions, the minister announced that the provincial cabinet has decided to cancel the Traffic Ordinance 2025 for now. He added that previously imposed fines under the ordinance would be suspended as part of confidence-building measures.

Committee Formed to Address Transporters’ Concerns

Moreover, the government has established a committee to resolve transporters’ grievances and recommend long-term reforms for the sector.

The minister said the agreement aims to restore normal transport operations across Punjab while ensuring future legislation is drafted in consultation with industry stakeholders.
