Japanese automaker Mitsubishi has unveiled the Eclipse Sportback, a striking addition to its electric vehicle lineup. While the new model may look familiar to some buyers at first glance, its unique styling and modern design are expected to help it establish a distinct identity in the market.
The new vehicle has been built on the same platform as the Nissan Leaf. However, at first sight, it appears noticeably different from Nissan’s compact electric car. The front end has been completely redesigned, giving it a fresh and dynamic appearance. Mitsubishi’s signature three-diamond emblem sits prominently at the front, accompanied by new lighting elements and a completely redesigned bumper.
At the rear, the traditional Nissan Leaf taillights have been replaced with L-shaped lighting units that extend in opposite directions. In addition, the company’s name is prominently displayed in large lettering on the tailgate, further enhancing the vehicle’s bold character.
Beneath its stylish exterior, the Eclipse Sportback is expected to share the same platform and powertrain as the Nissan Leaf. Nissan’s current model features a 75-kWh battery pack and a 214-horsepower electric motor, and Mitsubishi’s new EV is expected to offer similar performance.
Apart from redesigning the front and rear sections, Mitsubishi has also made subtle changes to the rear pillars and lower body panels. Specially designed wheels give the vehicle a sportier appearance.
The company has not yet released images of the interior. However, industry experts believe the cabin layout will closely resemble that of the Nissan Leaf. Mitsubishi has also yet to announce the vehicle’s official features and final performance specifications.
Since the Nissan Leaf starts at approximately $31,535, including delivery charges, the Mitsubishi electric vehicle is also expected to be launched within a similar price range.
According to the company, the Eclipse Sportback will arrive in showrooms during the second half of this year, while details regarding final pricing, trim levels, and additional specifications are expected to be announced soon.
