Apple has made a major change in the history of the iPhone by introducing its first foldable smartphone, the “iPhone Duo.” At an event held on the night of September 9, the company also unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max alongside the new phone.
The design of the new foldable iPhone feels almost like an iPad when unfolded, while the phone opens from the middle like a passport to provide a larger screen. Apple’s new Chief Executive Officer John Ternus, addressing the event, described it as an iPhone with a new design and said it contains all the features that users like about the iPhone.
According to John Ternus, Apple spent several years improving the foldable design. He said some other companies’ foldable phones feel like two phones joined together and do not provide as good a user experience. The Apple chief claimed that the iPhone Duo would transform the experience of using a foldable phone.
The phone is equipped with Apple’s new A20 Pro chipset and runs on the iOS 27 operating system. In its folded state, it has a 5.4-inch outer display, which expands to a 7.6-inch display when unfolded.
The iPhone Duo includes 12GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel front camera and an under-display camera. Its main camera system features a 48-megapixel main camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera.
The phone is equipped with a 5,800mAh battery, while the fingerprint sensor is located on the side of the phone. According to the company, the foldable iPhone has a starting price of $1,999, which is equivalent to more than Rs550,000 in Pakistani currency. The phone will be available to consumers in different countries from October 23.
Apple also introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at the same event. Both models feature new artificial intelligence features, while the company has also focused on improving battery performance.
According to the company, the iPhone 18 Pro Max will have a battery life of up to 45 hours, while the iPhone 18 Pro will offer up to 36 hours of battery life. In addition to the new iPhones, Apple also introduced AirPods headphones, the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4.
