Web Desk: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revised its international cricket calendar for 2028, outlining dates for major global tournaments and shifting Olympic qualification events as the sport prepares for its return to the Summer Games after more than a century.
The updated schedule includes the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand from October 12 to November 12, 2028, while the men’s and women’s qualifying tournaments for the Los Angeles Olympics have been moved to January and February of the same year.
The revised calendar was shared following ICC meetings in Dubai earlier this month. It covers 24 events across men’s, women’s and Under-19 cricket, including qualifying tournaments.
Australia and New Zealand will jointly host the 20-team Men’s T20 World Cup from October 12 to November 12, 2028.
The tournament will begin just 11 days after the women’s competition concludes, creating a closely packed schedule of major international events.
The revised calendar reflects the ICC’s planning for a busy year of international cricket, with multiple competitions and qualification pathways involving teams across different formats and age groups.
Meanwhile, cricket will return to the Olympic Games at Los Angeles 2028, marking its first appearance at the event since the 1900 Paris Olympics.
The United States could secure direct qualification for both the men’s and women’s competitions, provided its teams satisfy the ICC’s ranking requirements.
Under the criteria, both American teams must have ranked among the top 15 sides in their respective Twenty20 International (T20I) rankings at some point between June 30 and December 31, 2026.
The ranking window will therefore play a crucial role in determining whether the host nation can secure places in both Olympic competitions without going through an alternative qualification route.
