Questions have been raised over the use of resources allocated for poor and deserving people during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after irregularities were reported in the distribution of sewing machines worth Rs30 million in Provincial Assembly constituency PK-58, Mardan. An investigation into the matter has now been launched.
The Commissioner of Mardan Division has appointed the Additional Deputy Commissioner General as the inquiry officer to investigate the distribution of the sewing machines. The inquiry will examine the distribution process and related matters to establish the facts surrounding the alleged irregularities.
According to sources, the use of resources allocated for the welfare of poor and deserving people has become a matter of concern. Allegations of irregularities in social-sector projects during the PTI government have also raised questions about the need to scrutinise these initiatives. The inquiry into the distribution of sewing machines worth Rs30 million in constituency PK-58 is being viewed as significant in this context.
The decision to investigate the matter under the new provincial administration is being seen as an important step towards ensuring transparency in the use of public funds and the implementation of welfare projects. If irregularities in the allocation of money and distribution of goods intended for the poor are established, those responsible could be identified and action may follow.
The appointment of an inquiry officer to investigate the sewing machine distribution has been described as progress towards accountability. The investigation must now establish how the machines, valued at Rs30 million, were distributed, whether they reached the intended beneficiaries, and whether any rules were violated.
The scrutiny of welfare projects launched during the PTI government and efforts to account for the use of public resources have gained importance. However, any irregularities and the responsibility of individuals or institutions can only be conclusively determined once the inquiry is completed.
