Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem has decided to withdraw from the ongoing 35th National Athletics Championship in Karachi after falling ill.
According to Express News, Arshad Nadeem, who lit the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony of the national championship at NED University on Thursday, is reportedly suffering from gastroenteritis.
Earlier, Nadeem had struggled with fitness issues and delivered disappointing performances at the World Championships and the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. It was expected that he would attend only the opening ceremony of the National Athletics Championship.
However, due to abdominal pain, the Olympic champion has now withdrawn from the javelin throw competition. Arshad Nadeem was scheduled to compete in the event at 11am on Friday.
The Pakistan javelin thrower has been struggling ever since with injuries and on occasions faced backlash. However, he also urged his fans to not lose hope and would make all efforts to make a comeback.
