Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that 150 housing societies in Islamabad are illegal and that action is being taken against them.
Speaking to the media during a visit to the Margalla area, the interior minister said the government was working against all illegal housing societies in Islamabad and would reclaim any land occupied on government property.
He said a National Heritage Museum was being established in Islamabad. He added that action should also be taken against Capital Development Authority (CDA) employees who turned a blind eye to encroachments, in addition to those involved in illegal occupation.
The interior minister also directed authorities to reclaim occupied land in Bhara Kahu, saying that 108 kanals of government land would be recovered. Three museums, including an Army Museum, would be built on the reclaimed land.
He said the government would undertake the reconstruction of Islamabad’s older sectors, including G-6, G-7, G-9 and G-10, and remove encroachments without discrimination.
He added that the electricity distribution system in Islamabad would be moved entirely underground, with electricity poles removed in collaboration with the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO).
Earlier, speaking to the media at the Kashmir Chowk Underpass in Islamabad, Naqvi said construction had entered its 12th day and that significant progress would be made over the next 10 days. He described the junction as a busy point for traffic.
Naqvi said no roads had been closed and that the project would ease traffic travelling to and from Murree and Islamabad. He said the underpass would be opened as soon as construction was completed, adding that the prime minister would inaugurate it.
He said every tree affected by the Kashmir Chowk Underpass project had been relocated and none had been wasted. He also urged people to check the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) records to see how many trees had been planted in Islamabad over the past two years.
The interior minister further said that F-9 Park was being renovated and that a park was also being developed on land reclaimed near Shah Allah Ditta in Islamabad.
