The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has revealed that WhatsApp Business accounts are being hacked on a large scale.
Addressing a press conference, NCCIA Deputy Director Karachi Zone Shehzad Akbar said that 39 accounts belonging to citizens on WhatsApp, Instagram and other social media platforms were recovered within 15 days, while 95 accounts involved in causing financial losses to citizens were blocked.
He said action was also taken against 38 accounts that were harassing women through fake identities.
The NCCIA deputy director said that a large number of WhatsApp Business accounts were currently being hacked and advised users to exercise extreme caution.
He further revealed that the NCCIA conducted a raid last night after receiving information about a case in which, for the first time, minors had been engaged in pornography-related activities of this nature.
He said individuals from Germany and the United Kingdom were behind the heinous activity. According to him, $100 was paid for producing puppet pornography videos, while the children received Rs6,000.
He said 42 suspects had been arrested in connection with the dark web operation, including 12 minors. The alleged key figure, identified as Fida, was running three companies, and red rooms had been established in dark rooms from where children were assigned tasks.
He said such dark rooms existed around the world. He added that the agency had previously traced a child in Karachi who was looking for a way to take revenge, while a 14-year-old girl had also recently been traced.
He said operations against anti-state elements were continuing, adding that a suspect named Hamza had been arrested on anti-state charges the previous day.
