Pakistan has taken a significant step towards modernising its passport services, with the issuance of electronic passports (e-passports) beginning across the country and at Pakistani diplomatic missions worldwide, following the efforts of Director General of Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa and the dedication of his team.

Under the initiative, e-passports will be issued for both new passport applications and renewals of existing passports. The development is particularly significant for overseas Pakistanis, as modern travel documents are expected to make passport services more efficient, secure and aligned with international standards.

The initiative is also being viewed as an important step towards reducing travel-related and documentation problems faced by Pakistanis living abroad.

In line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision and the directives of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports team has brought the project into operation.

Equipped with modern security features, e-passports are expected to strengthen identity verification and improve the protection of travel documents.

Director General of Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa described the development as a significant milestone in the modernisation of Pakistan’s passport services. The completion of the initiative under his leadership is being regarded as a notable achievement in the department’s efforts to upgrade its services and meet evolving international requirements.
