Peshawar set for major transformation under 100-day development plan

Web Desk: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has directed authorities to accelerate major infrastructure projects in Peshawar, including road rehabilitation, underpasses, underground power cables and upgrades to the city’s public transport system.

Faisal Karim chaired a meeting on the Peshawar Master Development Plan, where officials presented 100-day and 180-day targets for improving the provincial capital’s infrastructure and easing traffic congestion.

Officials said the 100-day targets include completion of phases one and two of the Ring Road missing link, along with work on underpasses, electric poles, street lighting and cable networks.

Three underpasses have already been completed, while the Pashtakhara and Jamil Chowk underpasses are expected to be completed soon.

Work is also under way on 35 major roads, including the expansion of Nasir Bagh Road and Level Two of the Pir Zakori Flyover. Consultants have been hired for proposed underpasses at University Road, Ram Das Chungi and Lahori Chowk.

Faisal Karim directed authorities to prioritise the resurfacing of University Road and complete all ongoing projects within their deadlines.

Officials said the 323-kanal New Peshawar Bus Terminal will soon become operational under a public-private partnership model.

The meeting also reviewed plans to redevelop old bus terminal sites as shopping malls or residential flats and convert land cleared during anti-encroachment operations into landscaped public spaces.

Meanwhile, the feasibility study and design for moving electricity cables underground from Pir Zakori Flyover to Aman Chowk and Karkhano Market have been completed.

Faisal Karim called for underground cables across Peshawar, saying the move could also help curb electricity theft.
