Web Desk: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Amjad Ali, who is from Swat, travelled abroad 51 times over the past 13 years, according to documents reviewed in connection with his travel history.
The records show that Ali made only three foreign trips before the 2013 general elections. However, his overseas travel increased sharply after the elections, with 49 trips recorded between 2013 and 2024, according to the documents.
The documents indicate that Ali continued travelling abroad regularly after entering politics and assuming public office.
His travel history includes visits to Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, China, the United States, Turkey, Australia and Britain.
The frequency of the trips has raised questions about their purpose and the expenses involved, particularly as the available information does not identify any business interests or close family connections abroad.
According to sources, inquiries have been initiated into allegations concerning possible overseas assets allegedly held through nominees following claims of large-scale corruption. The sources also said authorities were examining allegations linked to drug smuggling.
Sources further claimed that before entering politics and gaining political influence, Ali had been a small-scale herbal medicine trader in Swat.
The documents do not establish why the foreign trips were made, who financed them or whether they were connected to business, political or personal activities.
As a result, questions surrounding the purpose of Ali’s frequent overseas travel, the costs involved and any assets he may have acquired abroad remain unanswered.
