Islamabad set for a new theme park

Web Desk: Saudi investors will finance a major theme park in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, the interior ministry said on Sunday, as the country seeks to attract foreign investment and expand its entertainment infrastructure.

The announcement followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Prince Mansour bin Mohammed Al-Saud, chairman of the Saudi-Pakistan Business Council (SPBC), and Sohail Ashraf, chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi oversaw the signing ceremony at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, marking a step towards cooperation between the two countries in the development of the project.

The proposed theme park is being presented as a first-of-its-kind project for Islamabad. However, the ministry’s announcement did not specify the investment amount, construction timeline, planned location within the capital or expected opening date.

The agreement comes as Pakistan seeks to bring in foreign capital to support infrastructure development and economic activity. Authorities have increasingly looked towards international partners for investment in projects spanning real estate, construction and property development.

The theme park plan also reflects efforts by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to broaden economic cooperation beyond their longstanding bilateral relationship.

Real estate and infrastructure development have emerged as potential areas for cross-border investment, offering opportunities for Saudi investors while supporting Pakistan’s efforts to develop new commercial and recreational facilities.

Further details about the project, including its design, facilities, financing structure and implementation schedule, were not immediately available.
