Web Desk: Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has emerged as a key diplomatic figure in efforts to promote regional stability, with Iran hosting senior officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey for four-country security talks following a proposal made during his recent visit to Tehran.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran agreed to the meeting after General Asim Munir proposed bringing the four countries together, highlighting Pakistan’s efforts to encourage regional dialogue at a time of heightened tensions across the Middle East.
The meeting brings together countries with significant political, military and strategic influence, creating an opportunity to address shared security concerns through direct engagement rather than allowing regional rivalries to deepen.
Baghaei said the proposal was raised during General’s visit to Iran and received Tehran’s approval. The initiative reflects an effort to strengthen cooperation among regional states on security issues affecting their collective interests.
For Pakistan, the talks offer an opportunity to use its diplomatic and security relationships to facilitate communication among key regional players. Islamabad’s engagement with Tehran, Riyadh and Ankara places it in a position to encourage dialogue at a time when instability threatens to widen across the region.
However, the meeting’s significance will ultimately depend on whether the participating countries can translate discussions into practical steps to reduce tensions and improve regional coordination.
The gathering includes Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Munir and Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin, alongside senior Iranian officials, according to Iranian media reports.
The participation of Saudi Arabia and Turkey alongside Iran is particularly significant given the region’s complex security environment. The countries have different strategic priorities, but their involvement creates a channel for discussing threats that extend beyond individual national interests.
