Federal Govt revises death assistance package for employees

The federal government has revised the assistance package for the death of government employees.

According to a private TV channel, the Establishment Division has issued an office memorandum regarding changes to the assistance package, under which the revised package will come into effect from August 28, 2026.

The package has been divided into two categories: death in general and security-related death. In the case of a security-related death, a lump-sum grant of Rs10 million to Rs20 million has been fixed according to the employee’s grade.

The family of a martyred employee will receive full salary and allowances until the employee’s retirement age, while the children of martyrs will be provided free education up to graduation and post-graduation. A permanent job in BS-1 to BS-15 will be provided to the martyr’s widow or one of the children.

In the case of a security-related death, an amount ranging from Rs13.5 million to Rs50 million, according to grade, will be provided for the purchase or construction of a house. In the case of a general death, a lump-sum grant of Rs600,000 to Rs3 million has been fixed according to grade, while the heirs will receive 100 percent pension.

The heirs of an employee who had served for less than 10 years will receive a pension calculated on the basis of at least 10 years of service. In the case of a general death, the facility of government accommodation or a rented house will continue until retirement or for at least five years.

The office memorandum has directed all ministries and departments to keep the details of heirs and GP Fund nominations in advance. An officer will be appointed as a focal person in each ministry to ensure that all facilities are provided to the heirs within one month.

The new package will apply to all permanent federal government employees, and the new notification will supersede previous martyr packages.
