Making an important change in the police and cybercrime investigation system of the federal capital, Sohail Chaudhry has been appointed as the new Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad Police, while the incumbent IG Ali Nasir Rizvi has been transferred from his post and appointed as the new Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
Sohail Chaudhry is a BS-20 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP). He has previously served at various important positions, including in Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan, while he has also performed important responsibilities in the Counter Terrorism Department of Punjab.
His previous positions include Chief Traffic Officer Lahore (CTO), City Police Officer Faisalabad (CPO), DIG Operations Lahore, DIG CTD Punjab and RPO Multan.
Sohail Chaudhry assumed the responsibility of DIG Operations Lahore in 2021 after the Minar-e-Pakistan harassment case, following which his profile also became a focus of attention at the national level. Later, he also served as DIG CTD Punjab; however, he was subsequently transferred from the province and appointed as an OSD.
On the other hand, Ali Nasir Rizvi, who was serving as IG Islamabad Police, will now assume the responsibilities of Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency.
Sohail Chaudhry’s appointment as head of Islamabad Police has been made at a time when the process of introducing modern systems in the capital’s police is underway. These measures also include an artificial intelligence (AI)-equipped command and control system, aimed at making the real-time monitoring and response system more effective.
