Rana Sanaullah wins Senate election with 250 votes

Web desk: Rana Sanaullah won the Punjab Senate seat with 250 votes today, according to the unofficial results of Tuesday’s by-election.

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, senior PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah has been elected as a Senator from Punjab.

The seat had fallen vacant following the disqualification of former Senator Ejaz Chaudhry.

A total of 251 votes were cast in the election, out of which one vote was rejected. Rana Sanaullah secured 250 votes, winning the seat with an overwhelming majority.

His victory was widely expected, as the ruling party enjoys a numerical advantage in the Punjab Assembly.

Ejaz Chaudhry was disqualified by the court after being convicted in cases linked to the May 9 incidents and other charges, which led to the vacancy.

Rana Sanaullah was nominated as the joint candidate of the ruling coalition, which comprises the PML-N, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), and PML-Q.

He enjoyed the backing of 263 members, well above the 180 votes required to win the Senate seat.
