Former Pakistan cricket team captain Wasim Akram says he has been watching Pakistan cricket in the same state for the past five to six years.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Wasim Akram said Pakistan had lost the home-and-away series against Bangladesh. He said the warning signs had been there already, but no work was done on them.
Wasim Akram said whether it was him or any other coach who came in, the players available to the team remained the same. He said the PSL had completed 10 years, but not a single batter had emerged from the PSL, although bowlers had certainly come through.
He said England needed an experienced bowler like Shaheen Afridi, but Pakistan sent fast bowlers to England who only had pace.
Former captain Wasim Akram said Aaqib Javed should have been on the tour. He added that the PCB should be allowed to run the domestic system it has developed for three to four years, saying there was no plan other than patience and planning.
Wasim Akram called for the revival of club cricket, saying the PCB should invest Rs100 million each in Karachi and Lahore. He said talent has to come through club cricket and there should be consistency in the team, but the same players keep coming and going.
Wasim Akram said the batters do not get their front foot forward and play bowlers like Robinson while standing in the crease. He said players should be strong and confident at the crease, but for that, talent is necessary.
Wasim Akram said that just as every Pakistani becomes disappointed after seeing the team’s performances, he also feels disappointed. He said the white-ball team is fine, but the red-ball team is not, and that is where Pakistan faces difficulties.
