KP to Revisit PTI’s Era Self Centered Legislation of Power and Privileges

A decision has been made to review legislation enacted during the PTI government’s tenure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A total of 76 laws passed by the provincial assembly will be examined.

According to official sources, the Law Department has formed a committee to review the legislation. The committee will submit its recommendations to the relevant authorities within seven days. The review will cover laws concerning 20 provincial departments.

The review will also examine laws relating to prosecution, universities, medical teaching institutions, and the powers and privileges of the provincial assembly. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prosecution Service (Amendment) Act 2025 is also included in the review.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has also confirmed the review of the laws, stating that any law found to be flawed will be amended.

The legislation enacted during the PTI government’s tenure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has come under scrutiny over concerns that majority of the laws were designed to serve political interests rather than the broader public interest.

The review of 76 KP laws is expected to verify whether these legal measures strengthened institutional autonomy and governance or concentrated powers, privileges and administrative control in ways that benefited specific individuals or political interests.

The proposed review also raises broader questions about the legislative priorities of the previous government and whether adequate consideration was given to public welfare, institutional effectiveness and the long-term interests of the province.
