Risk of Urban Flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Faisalabad and Lahore
The Meteorological Department has forecast the entry of monsoon winds into the upper parts of the country, with rain expected in Punjab and upper areas from today until September 17.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for the ninth and final monsoon spell, which may lead to urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Faisalabad and Lahore. There is also a risk of landslides in the upper areas, Kashmir, Murree and Galiyat.
Stormy conditions developed in the federal capital late at night. Strong winds caused trees to fall at various locations, including Margalla Road and Faisal Avenue, damaging vehicles. The stage set up for a concert at the Sports Complex also collapsed due to strong winds.
Rain was also reported in Peshawar and surrounding areas, while clouds gathered over Islamabad early in the morning. The NDMA has advised citizens and travelers to remain cautious during the weather spell and avoid unnecessary travel.
