A case has been filed against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and lawyer Naeem Haider Panjutha over electricity theft in Bhera city, Sargodha district, police said.
The FIR states that Bhera Police Station registered case No. 462 against Panjutha under Section 462-I of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), a section dealing with electricity theft and tampering with power meters by domestic consumers.
According to FESCO sources, the case was registered in Sargodha on the complaint of FESCO SDO Atif Zia. The FIR states that electricity was being stolen through the electricity meter installed at Naeem Haider Panjutha’s residence.
The FIR also states that the Executive Engineer (XEN), Metering and Testing (M&T), Sargodha, subsequently reported that the meter had allegedly been tampered with, its seals on both sides were broken and its body had been opened.
FESCO maintains that the electricity theft was detected during an inspection of the meter, following which legal action was initiated and a case was registered at the relevant police station.
Sources said FESCO has also included evidence of the alleged electricity theft and records related to the meter as part of the proceedings.
The development comes a day after Naeem Haider Panjutha claimed on social media that authorities had carried out an operation at his house in Bhera, Sargodha, and removed the electricity meters.
Meanwhile, FESCO’s action is being described as a legal measure against electricity theft. According to FESCO, power theft not only causes financial losses to electricity distribution companies but also ultimately places an additional burden on other electricity consumers.
It may be noted that Naeem Haider Panjutha is considered one of the key leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and has also served as a spokesperson for Imran Khan on legal matters.
