Delhi police initially told media that the incident did not immediately appear to be an act of terrorism and that a gas cylinder blast was a plausible cause. Republic TV earlier echoed the police chief’s assessment, reporting that the explosion seemed linked to a vehicle fire rather than an attack. Meanwhile, forensic teams continued to examine debris at the cordoned-off site.
Broad Claims on Air Contrast With Official Lines
Nevertheless, anchors Arnab Goswami and retired General G.D. Bakshi made highly public assertions on air that Pakistan was responsible, citing unverified details and linking the blast to well-known militant groups. Bakshi told viewers that Pakistan “has just signed its own death warrant” and alleged the recovery of large quantities of explosives claims he said would show “Pakistan’s imprint all over.” Goswami and Bakshi also suggested coordination by groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammad and an Al-Qaeda offshoot.
Officials and Experts Urge Verification
Investigators have not confirmed those allegations. Senior police officials and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) deployed teams to the site, and top security authorities said investigators must verify any explosives findings and trace the origin of materials, if present. Forensic experts are examining the vehicle and surrounding wreckage to determine whether the blast stemmed from an accidental gas-cylinder ignition or from an explosive device.
