Web Desk: An Indian Air Force (IAF) training aircraft crashed today in Tamil Nadu’s Chengalpattu district, IAF officials confirmed, marking another incident in a series of military aviation accidents reported in recent years.

Location and Flight Details

According to initial information, the aircraft identified in local reports as a Pilatus PC-7 was on a routine training sortie when it went down in an open area near Chengalpattu, south of Chennai. The crash occurred shortly after takeoff from a nearby air base used for basic flight training.

Pilot Ejects in Time

The IAF confirmed that the pilot managed to eject safely before the aircraft hit the ground. Emergency responders rushed to the site, and officials said no casualties were reported on the ground. Investigators have cordoned off the area to determine what caused the crash.

A Pattern of Recent Accidents

The latest crash comes amid heightened scrutiny of IAF flight safety. Over the past decade, the force has recorded multiple accidents involving different aircraft types, including MiG-21 fighters, which have been involved in several fatal crashes. In recent years, a Sukhoi-30MKI and a Mirage-2000 trainer have also gone down during training missions, prompting calls for accelerated fleet modernization and improved safety protocols.

Pakistan Downed Indian Fighter Jets

Pakistan has asserted that its air force downed six Indian fighter jets during cross-border escalations in May. One of the most publicized incidents occurred in February 2019, when Islamabad said its aircraft shot down an Indian MiG-21 during an aerial engagement along the Line of Control. India confirmed the loss of the jet. US President Donald Trump repeatedly mentioned the downing of Indian Jets.

Inquiry Ordered

Meanwhile, the Air Force has ordered a Court of Inquiry to establish the circumstances leading to the crash. Officials said further details will be released after preliminary assessments.
