Web desk: Reports have emerged of the mysterious killing of Gul Rahman alias Ustad Mureed, a senior commander of the banned group Fitna al-Hindustan and the alleged mastermind behind the deadly Jaffar Express attack.

According to security sources, the incident occurred on 17 September 2025 in Afghanistan’s Helmand province.

Sources revealed that Rahman, also known by his alias Ustad Mureed or Jaffar, was not only the senior-most trainer and operational commander of Fitna al-Hindustan (also known as the Majeed Brigade), but had also orchestrated multiple lethal attacks inside Pakistan.

Direct Involvement in Major Terrorist Attacks

According to security officials, Gul Rahman was directly involved in plotting and executing attacks targeting Pakistan’s security forces, Chinese nationals, innocent civilians, and projects linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The group’s high-profile operations, which severely damaged Pakistan’s national security, economic stability, and international reputation, include:

  • The attack on Jaffar Express
  • The Chinese Consulate attack in Karachi
  • The Pearl Continental Hotel attack in Gwadar
  • The Khuzdar school bus bombing
  • The suicide attack on the Confucius Institute in Karachi
  • The Pakistan Stock Exchange attack
  • The Quetta railway station bombing

International Condemnation

The US government had earlier designated the Majeed Brigade, the militant wing of Fitna al-Hindustan, as a global terrorist organisation.

Both Pakistan and China have also urged the United Nations to place the group on its list of proscribed terrorist organisations.

Afghan Territory as a Safe Haven

Rahman’s death in Afghanistan once again highlights the use of Afghan soil by terrorist groups to launch attacks inside Pakistan.

Security officials stressed that the incident should alert the international community to the existence of cross-border safe havens being used by militant networks.

Strategic Implications

Analysts believe that the mysterious killing of a high-profile militant such as Gul Rahman is not only a major blow to terrorist organisations but also reinforces Pakistan and China’s long-standing position that groups like

Fitna al-Hindustan pose a grave threat to regional peace and stability.
