Karachi cylinder explosion leaves 9 dead including a child

Web desk: A gas cylinder explosion in a residential neighborhood of Karachi caused a building to collapse killing nine people including a young girl and injuring twelve others rescue officials said.

The tragic incident took place in Rana Colony in Soldier Bazaar near Street 05 close to the Aga Khan School. Rescue teams reached the site immediately after receiving reports of the blast.

Ambulances and volunteers from the Edhi Foundation shifted the injured to Civil Hospital where they are receiving medical treatment.

According to rescue sources the victims include Talha a 60 year old man named Riaz and a 10 year old girl Nazia.

Witnesses said the explosion was so powerful that nearby buildings shook and panic spread across the area.

The Deputy Commissioner East said four bodies including a woman and a child were recovered from the rubble. Officials fear that two more people may still be trapped under the debris.

Authorities said the explosion occurred on the ground floor of the building. The intensity of the blast severely damaged the structure and led to its complete collapse. Rescue teams faced difficulties during the operation due to narrow streets in the area.

Officials said rescue efforts were ongoing to clear the debris and ensure no one else remained trapped.
