Web Desk: The federal government increased the price of kerosene oil today following a massive surge in petrol and diesel rates. Specifically, the Ministry of Energy issued a notification setting the new price of kerosene oil at Rs 467.48 per litre.

This latest adjustment comes as part of a broader fuel price hike triggered by global energy market volatility. First, the government announced an unprecedented increase in petrol and diesel prices due to rising international crude oil costs. In addition, the Petroleum Division confirmed that kerosene oil, which is essential for cooking and heating in low-income households, will now cost significantly more.

According to the official notification, the new rates take effect immediately. Furthermore, this move follows a series of emergency meetings between the Ministry of Finance and the Petroleum Division. As a result, consumers across the country must now pay the revised amount at all retail outlets.

Moreover, analysts suggest that the rise in kerosene prices will disproportionately affect rural and impoverished populations. Indeed, many families rely on this fuel as a cheaper alternative to gas or electricity. Consequently, the combined increase in all petroleum products is expected to drive up the overall cost of living and transportation across Pakistan.

Finally, the government maintained that these “difficult decisions” were necessary to manage the national import bill. Therefore, officials are urging the public to adopt fuel conservation measures as the global energy crisis continues to impact the domestic economy.
