Web Desk: The National Highway Authority (NHA) announced a significant increase in toll tax rates across Pakistan’s national highways and motorways, effective April 5, 2026. This latest revision, issued by the Ministry of Communications, impacts all vehicle categories from private cars to heavy articulated trucks.

According to the official notification, the NHA set the new toll for cars on national highways at Rs 100. Meanwhile, operators of wagons will now pay Rs 200, and bus fares have climbed to Rs 300. Specifically, commuters using the Kohat Tunnel (N-55) face a steeper car toll of Rs 250, while the Islamabad-Muzaffarabad Dual Carriageway (E-75) rate for cars now stands at Rs 300.

The toll hikes vary significantly across the country’s primary motorway network. The NHA applied the following rates for passenger cars:

  • M-1 (Islamabad–Peshawar): Rs 700
  • M-3 (Lahore–Abdul Hakim): Rs 1,000
  • M-4 (Pindi Bhattian–Faisalabad–Multan): Rs 1,300
  • M-5 (Multan–Sukkur): Rs 1,500
  • M-14 (D.I. Khan–Hakla): Rs 800
  • E-35 (Hassanabdal–Havelian–Mansehra): Rs 350

Furthermore, the transport and logistics sector will feel the brunt of these changes as heavy vehicle charges see substantial upward movement. For instance, articulated trucks traveling the M-5 Multan-Sukkur route must now pay Rs 7,150, while the same category on the M-4 route faces a charge of Rs 6,400.

Consequently, these adjustments follow the powers conferred under Section 10 (2) vii of the NHA Act 1991, as amended in 2024. Although the NHA maintains that these funds are essential for the upkeep and rehabilitation of the road network, the move is expected to increase the cost of inland goods transportation and travel expenses for daily commuters.
