Arab media video highlights Field Marshal’s growing regional importance

Field Marsahal Syed Asim Munir

Arab media outlet Al Arabiya has released an informational video about Field Marshal Asim Munir in Arabic.

The video introduces him and states that Asim Munir is considered by some as an architect of Pakistan’s foreign policy. It also claims that he is perhaps the only figure in the world whom Donald Trump repeatedly praises.

According to Al Arabiya, he is the general whom Trump is said to consistently admire. His name recently came into prominence when he received visiting American and Iranian delegations in Pakistan.

He is described as an architect of Pakistan’s foreign policy, and according to a former Pakistani ambassador to the United States, he may be the only personality whom Trump continuously praises.

Asim Munir received his military training from the Officers Training School, which is considered a less prestigious institution compared to the Pakistan Military Academy, from which most former army chiefs graduated.

He assumed the position of head of the intelligence agency (ISI) in 2018, but was removed from the post after just one year by Imran Khan, a decision described as unprecedented in the country’s history.

Later, following the success of the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan in 2022, Munir was appointed as Chief of Army Staff.

He played an important role in reducing tensions following the exchange of airstrikes with Iran in 2024, and strengthened Islamabad’s presence in the Middle East by offering cooperation in Trump’s proposed plan for a peacekeeping force in Gaza.

He is once again in the spotlight after The Wall Street Journal reported, citing informed sources, that credit for facilitating recent talks goes to General Asim Munir, who reportedly leveraged his strong connections with Trump and U.S. military officials.
