Web desk: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and US President Donald Trump are set to hold a one-on-one meeting in Washington, according to reliable sources.
The meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, on Thursday, at the White House.
PM Shehbaz Sharif will travel from New York to Washington tonight with a high-level delegation.
Before this, the prime minister met with President Trump along with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, and Indonesia on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Gaza conflict was the main topic of discussion, according to the reports. According to the Emirati state news agency WAM, the talks focused on efforts to end the ongoing war in Gaza and to secure a permanent ceasefire.
Separately, PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan’s keen desire to further strengthen bilateral ties with Kuwait, especially in trade, investment, agriculture, livestock, manpower export, and health.
The prime minister, who is in New York for the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, held a bilateral meeting with Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait.
During the warm and cordial meeting, he highlighted the longstanding, historic fraternal ties between Pakistan and Kuwait.
Muslim leaders meet President Trump, call for immediate Gaza ceasefire in joint statement
US President Donald Trump held an important meeting with several leaders from Muslim countries, after which a joint statement was issued calling for an immediate end to the ongoing war in Gaza.
According to the statement, Muslim leaders urged President Trump to use his influence to play a decisive role in halting the conflict.
They stressed that the forced displacement of the Palestinian people is unacceptable and said the situation has deeply shocked the Islamic world.
The joint statement further noted that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached its peak, and conditions have become unbearable.
Muslim leaders praised President Trump’s leadership during the talks and assured him of their full cooperation.
They expressed confidence that, if President Trump intervenes, he could help bring an end to the war in Gaza.
The statement also voiced hope that the United States would take a positive step towards finding a lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.
