Web Desk: Switzerland has opened applications for its Government Excellence Scholarships for Pakistani students and researchers seeking advanced academic and research opportunities during the 2027-28 academic year.
The Embassy of Switzerland in Pakistan announced the programme, offering eligible candidates a chance to pursue doctoral-level research and PhD studies in Switzerland.
The Higher Education Commission has also circulated the opportunity among Pakistani applicants, although it clarified that it is only publicising the programme and will not bear any financial responsibility for the scholarships.
The scholarship programme offers two main opportunities for Pakistani applicants.
The first is a one-year research scholarship designed for doctoral candidates who want to conduct research in Switzerland. The second is a three-year PhD scholarship for candidates seeking to complete doctoral studies at a Swiss institution.
The Swiss government administers the programme through the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students, which supports international academic exchange and research cooperation. The broader programme covers postgraduate research opportunities and is not intended for conventional bachelor’s or master’s study.
Interested Pakistani candidates must submit their applications online through the official Swiss government scholarship system.
Applicants should carefully examine the eligibility conditions, required documents and application instructions before submitting their forms. HEC has stressed that candidates should direct questions and applications to the relevant Swiss mission or institution rather than treating HEC as the scholarship provider.
For Pakistani applicants, the deadline to submit applications is Oct. 31, 2026.
Applications submitted after the closing date may not be considered. Therefore, prospective candidates have been advised to begin preparing their documents well before the deadline and ensure that their online applications are complete.
The Higher Education Commission has advertised the Swiss scholarship opportunity but said it does not assume financial liability for the programme.
According to HEC, applicants must deal directly with the respective Swiss mission or university regarding the application process and related queries.
The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship programme is part of Switzerland’s broader effort to strengthen international academic and research cooperation. The Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students awards scholarships to foreign researchers across various disciplines.
Swiss authorities have also warned prospective applicants to be cautious of fraudulent scholarship offers. Official Swiss guidance says applicants should not respond to suspicious scholarship emails or send money in connection with such offers.
The latest announcement provides Pakistani doctoral candidates and prospective PhD researchers with an opportunity to gain academic experience in Switzerland while working within the country’s higher education and research system.
With the application deadline approaching, candidates interested in the 2027-28 intake will need to verify their eligibility and complete the official online process before the Oct. 31 cutoff.
