Web desk: A section of Terminal 4 at London’s Heathrow Airport was evacuated on Monday due to a suspected hazardous material, authorities confirmed.
The check-in area was shut down as emergency services rushed to the scene, a Heathrow spokesperson said.
Passengers with luggage were seen gathered outside the terminal while firefighters managed the situation.
The London Fire Brigade stated that the evacuation was a precautionary measure.
Heathrow Airport advised travellers to avoid going to Terminal 4, though operations at the other terminals continued as usual.
“Terminal 4 check-in has been closed and evacuated while emergency services respond to an incident. We are asking passengers not to travel to Terminal 4 and supporting those on site. All other terminals are operating as normal. We will provide further information as soon as we can,” a Heathrow spokesperson said in a statement.
Heathrow, one of Europe’s busiest airports, posted regarding this on it’s X (previously twitter) account: “Terminal 4 check-in has been closed and evacuated while emergency services respond to an incident. Please do not travel to Terminal 4, colleagues are supporting passengers on site. We will provide further information as soon as we can, all other terminals are operating as normal.”

According to BBC, at 17:01 BST this evening, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to Heathrow Airport in response to a “possible hazardous materials incident,” the brigade said.
A Heathrow spokesperson confirmed that Terminal 4 was evacuated, with passengers seen waiting outside the terminal.
National Rail reported that trains were unable to stop at the Terminal 4 station as emergency services managed the situation.
Details about the exact nature of the incident and its cause remain unknown, BBC reports. It is also unclear how air traffic has been affected; some flights appear to be operating as scheduled, while others across various terminals are experiencing delays.
