At the FIFA World Cup 2026, where the world’s best football teams will play against each other, eight sets of brothers will be part of the event, four of whom are representing different flags.
According to a report by British sports website HITC, these brothers have become the center of focus and interest not only because of their family ties but also due to their different national identities.
The most fascinating story is that of the Doué brothers. Guéla Douéwill be playing for the Ivory Coast national team, while his younger brother Désiré Doué will be representing France team.
Similarly, Athletic Bilbao’s Iñaki Williams and Nico Williams also represent different countries. Iñaki represents Ghana, while Nico will be playing for Spain and was part of the Euro 2024-winning squad.
Ghana defender Derrick Lukassen and Netherlands forward Brian Brobbey are also brothers but represent different national teams.
John Souttar plays for Scotland, while his brother Harry Souttar represents Australia.
Could Brothers Face Each Other at the World Cup?
According to the report, all brothers representing different countries have been placed in separate groups, making it impossible for them to play against each other during the group stage.
Ivory Coast is in Group E, while France is in Group I, meaning a potential meeting between Guéla and Désiré Doué could only occur in the knockout stage.
