Web Desk: KIA Pakistan has stopped accepting bookings for the Picanto hatchback and removed the model from its official vehicle lineup, signalling the apparent end of the compact car’s presence in the local market after nearly six years.

The automaker has not issued an official announcement explaining the move. However, the Picanto’s removal from KIA Pakistan’s website indicates that the vehicle is no longer being offered to new buyers.

Lucky Motor Corporation introduced the locally assembled KIA Picanto in September 2019, positioning it as a compact, fuel-efficient hatchback aimed at urban commuters.

Although the model generated interest following its launch, it struggled to secure a significant share of Pakistan’s highly competitive small-car segment.

Industry observers have attributed the vehicle’s limited market performance to its pricing, which remained higher than several competing models. Consumers also cited concerns over resale value and the availability of spare parts, factors that heavily influence purchasing decisions in Pakistan’s automobile market.

While the automatic version gained popularity among some city drivers seeking convenience for daily commuting, the manual variant reportedly attracted relatively weaker demand.

The Picanto faced stiff competition from established rivals offering lower ownership costs, stronger resale prospects and more extensive after-sales support networks.

The removal of the Picanto from KIA Pakistan’s portfolio marks the conclusion of the hatchback’s nearly six-year run in the country.

Globally, however, the Picanto continues to be sold in several markets, where its latest third-generation version features updated styling, enhanced technology, redesigned lighting, a refreshed cabin and improved safety features.

KIA Pakistan has not indicated whether it intends to introduce the updated international version to the local market.

Despite ending new bookings, existing Picanto owners are expected to continue receiving maintenance, spare parts and after-sales services through KIA’s authorised dealership network.

The development comes as KIA Pakistan continues to focus on other models in its domestic product portfolio while adapting to evolving consumer demand in the country’s automotive sector.
