Web Desk: Web Desk: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a review of 1,224 development schemes introduced under the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) administration, with plans to scrap projects that have failed to secure approval from relevant government forums.
The review also covers development projects in the constituencies of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Provincial Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem, indicating that schemes linked to senior government officials will not be exempt from scrutiny.
According to sources, the previous provincial government had included 1,224 new schemes in the Annual Development Programme (ADP), with an estimated combined cost of Rs1,348 billion.
The provincial budget for the current fiscal year allocated Rs107 billion for these projects.
Officials are conducting a detailed assessment of the development portfolio to determine which schemes meet the required administrative, legal and financial criteria.
Under the proposed policy, projects that have not secured approval from the relevant government forums will be discontinued.
The review will examine each scheme’s legal status, financial requirements and practical utility to ensure the province uses its development budget effectively.
The scrutiny extends to projects in the constituencies of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Speaker Babar Saleem.
Their inclusion suggests that the government intends to apply the review process across the province rather than exclude projects associated with senior political figures.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Samar Haroon Bilour told a private television channel that the government was reviewing all development schemes across the province and would not accept political interference in the process.
She said authorities would reconsider some projects while retaining others in their existing form.
Bilour added that officials would make decisions on an individual basis, taking each project’s public utility and merit into account.
The review could determine the future of hundreds of development projects introduced during the previous PTI administration, while also establishing which schemes should continue, undergo revisions or face cancellation.
