Govt announces Iqbal Day holiday

Web Desk: The federal government has declared a nationwide public holiday on November 9 to mark the birth anniversary of national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal, giving employees across Pakistan an extended weekend.

According to details, the Cabinet Division has issued an official notification confirming the holiday for Monday, November 9. All government and private offices, educational institutions and banks will remain closed on the occasion.

The Cabinet Division has circulated copies of the notification to all federal ministries, provincial governments and relevant departments to ensure implementation.

Since Iqbal Day falls on Monday, employees who already have Saturday and Sunday off will enjoy three consecutive holidays from November 7 to 9.

Meanwhile, employees of organisations that observe only Sunday as their weekly holiday will get two consecutive days off on November 8 and 9.

Pakistan observes Iqbal Day every year on November 9 to pay tribute to Allama Muhammad Iqbal, widely known as the Poet of the East.

The day commemorates his philosophical contributions, intellectual legacy and role in inspiring the Pakistan Movement.
