Former Pakistani captain Wasim Akram has turned down the offer to become a mentor in the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) and has decided not to be part of the league out of respect for the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) policy.
According to News sources, Wasim Akram was offered the role of mentor in the Afghanistan Premier League, but he declined the offer keeping PCB’s stance in mind.
It should be noted that the PCB had already decided not to issue No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to Pakistani cricketers to participate in the Afghanistan Premier League. Following the same policy, Wasim Akram also decided not to get involved with the league.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood has been appointed as the head coach of Team Paktia, with leadership handled by Rahmat Shah, while former captain and fast bowler Waqar Younis has been named the team’s ambassador.
Pakistan’s former fast bowler Mohammad Amir, who holds a UK passport, was also picked by the Kandahar Warriors in the platinum category during the players’ draft happening on Tuesday.
Mohammad Amir is currently based in England and obtained British citizenship in May this year. He registered for the draft as a British citizen. The Kandahar Warriors chose him in their very first pick, preferring him over Afghanistan’s experienced all-rounder Mohammad Nabi.
