FBR updates about tax returns

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced a new feature in the IRIS system for taxpayers.

According to FBR’s new feature, it’s now possible to make changes to an electronic sales tax invoice even after 72 hours have passed, and there will also be a facility to cancel a sales tax invoice after the stipulated period.

Prior approval from the relevant Commissioner Inland Revenue is mandatory for making changes or cancellations to an invoice, and FBR has released a user guide regarding the use of this new feature.

Taxpayers can submit a request for amendment or cancellation through the IRIS portal, and there is a facility to attach relevant documents in PDF format for invoice verification. However, separate actions cannot be taken on invoices selected for both amendment and cancellation in the same request.

According to the FBR, until a decision is made on the request, there will be a ban on submitting Annexure C of the sales tax return. After approval by the Commissioner of Inland Revenue, amended invoices can be included in Annexure C. If the request is rejected, the original invoices will be included in Annexure C.

It was further stated that the new facility will not apply to invoices already attached to the return’s Annexure C, and invoices included in rejected or pending requests cannot be part of a new request again.

The FBR has introduced an official procedure for correcting and canceling invoices 72 hours after the new facility.
