Presence of Sexually Violent Deepfake AI Apps on Apple and Google App Stores Revealed

It has been revealed that over 400 apps—capable of generating sexually explicit or violent “deepfake” images and videos using artificial intelligence (AI)—were present on the app stores of technology giants Apple and Google.

According to an investigation by the technology website *Wired*, these apps appeared innocuous on the surface; however, they contained hidden features that allowed for the creation of obscene and violent fabricated content using images of individuals.

The investigation uncovered that the content generated by these apps could be used to defame, harass, and threaten people.

The report notes that these apps were being promoted through thousands of video advertisements on Facebook and Instagram.

By concealing these features, the apps managed to bypass the review systems of Apple, Google, and Meta, allowing them to remain on these platforms for an extended period.

Following the issue being flagged by *Wired*, Apple has removed 19 such apps from its App Store.

Meanwhile, Meta has stated that it has taken action against more than 10,000 advertising accounts linked to web domains associated with these apps.

This revelation highlights the growing misuse of deepfake technology and raises serious concerns regarding the privacy and safety of online users.
