Web Desk: Pakistani citizens living in or travelling to the United Arab Emirates have been warned to comply with the country’s strict social media and privacy laws, according to an advisory issued by Pakistan’s Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment.
The advisory urged Pakistanis to exercise caution when recording, sharing or publishing content involving other people while in the UAE.
According to the alert, violations of privacy laws, sharing material without permission and disclosure of confidential information can lead to imprisonment and heavy fines under UAE law.
The bureau advised citizens to familiarise themselves with local regulations before travelling to the country and to avoid online activity that could violate another person’s privacy.
The advisory specifically warned that taking photographs or recording videos of individuals without their consent and subsequently sharing the material on social media is prohibited.
Similarly, recording or broadcasting another person’s private conversations without permission may also constitute a legal violation, the advisory said.
